Frequently (and not that frequently) asked questions

What's VIS?

VIS is Austria's biggest festival for films with a maximum length of 30 minutes. Since 2004, VIS has been showing short feature films and documentaries as well as animation and experimental films both in competitions and special programs. The festival always takes place at the end of May, this year from May 28th to June 2nd. In addition, VIS owns a short film archive which is open for everyone interested.

Is my film eligible for VIS?

Any film with a maximum length of 30 minutes has a chance of being selected. Each competition is headed by program coordinators who - with the help of film-loving selection teams as well as the artistic director - choose their favourite films out of more than 2,700 submissions.

How can I get accredited?

All filmmakers whose films are featured at the festival receive an invitation to attend. In addition, filmmakers from past years as well as professionals from Austria and abroad can apply for an accreditation. Information for press officials can be found here.

What does VIS stand for?

"VIS" is the short cut for Vienna Independent Shorts. The festival itself stands for a passionate but also playful involvement with short films of any kind. We support filmmakers meeting each other but also interacting with the audience and provide a  space for Austrian and national professionals to come together.

How and when can I submit my film?

Submission for the 12th edition of VIS (26th - 31st of May, 2015) is open from October 27th, 2014, to January 4th, 2015. Films can be submitted online via Reelport. Further information as well as the submission guidelines can be found on our website in due time.
